Track lighting is a very easy and flexible system. It allows for the addition of unlimited lighting and, moreover, it is almost always adjustable. We distinguish between single-phase and three-phase track lighting. A single-phase track requires a single-phase track spotlight, while a three-phase track requires a three-phase track spotlight.
In a single-phase track system (also called a single-phase system), all track spotlights are operated on a single circuit. A circuit refers to the number of track spotlights that you can light up using a single switch. To use a single-phase track system, your network can be either single-phase or three-phase. For example, if you have 3 x 380 V available, you can use single-phase tracks, but you will only be using one circuit. Conversely, you can also use three-phase track in a single-phase network (for example, 1 x 230 V). You then connect L1, L2, and L3 to each other.
With a 3-phase track system, you have the option to have 3 circuits lit separately. This can be useful when you want to power a number of spotlights on the same track using one switch and the others on one or two other switches. For example, suppose you have a retail space and you want to leave basic lighting on in the evening after closing time; you can then switch on a limited number of spotlights on the track. However, you can also solve this problem by placing all the spotlights you want to keep lit continuously on a single-phase track.
