Surface-mount frames for LED panels

A surface-mount frame lets you fit an LED panel directly against a solid ceiling or wall, without the need for a suspended ceiling. The frame forms a neat, shallow housing that holds the panel, so it sits flush against concrete, plaster, wood or stone with no visible cables or driver.
Surface-mount frames and recessed frames for LED panels
In this category you will find surface-mount frames for the most common panel sizes: 60x60 cm (also as 62x62 and 625x625 mm), 30x120 cm and 60x120 cm. The frames are made of aluminium or powder-coated steel and are available in white and, for 60x60 cm, also in black, so the frame matches the ceiling or the interior. You will also find recessed frames for plasterboard ceilings: these let you build a panel into a closed plaster ceiling with only a narrow edge visible.
A surface-mount frame is first fixed to the ceiling with screws and plugs. You then connect the panel to the mains and slide or click it into the frame. Frames with screwless assembly go together without tools, which makes installing larger numbers of panels much faster. The frame itself contains no electronics: the LED panel and its driver are bought separately, unless they are already included with the panel.
The depth of the frame matters. A shallow frame of about 43 mm suits thin panels whose driver is supplied separately and fits next to the panel inside the frame. A deeper frame of about 58 to 65 mm gives more room for thicker panels, backlit panels or a driver that has to sit behind the panel. Always check the thickness of your panel and the size of the driver before choosing a frame.
What to look for when choosing
| Feature | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Panel size | The frame must match the outer size of your panel exactly, for example 595x595 mm or 620x620 mm for a 60x60 cm panel. |
| Depth | Choose a deeper frame if your panel is thick or the driver has to sit behind the panel. |
| Ceiling type | Surface-mount frame for concrete, wood or a solid ceiling; recessed frame for a plasterboard ceiling in which you cut an opening. |
| Colour | White suits most ceilings; black gives a modern look in shops, hospitality or offices with a dark ceiling. |
| Installation | Screwless frames are quicker to fit, ideal when you install many panels at once. |
