Infographic: Dimmable LED high bay UFO

A dimmable LED high bay UFO is a hall luminaire whose light output you can reduce, usually via a 1-10V, 0-10V or DALI control signal. This lets you adapt the light to how the space is used and save extra energy, for example by giving less light when daylight comes in or nobody is present.

Benefits of dimming

  • Extra savings: a dimmed luminaire uses less electricity.
  • Tailored light: more light for precision work, less for storage.
  • Daylight control: automatically less light when plenty of daylight comes in.
  • Motion sensor: dims down to, for example, 10 to 20% when nobody is there.

What to look out for

For 1-10V or 0-10V you need a suitable dimmer or controller and an extra control cable. DALI requires a DALI controller. Always check which dimming system the luminaire supports. Also read the different ways to dim LED.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 0-10V and 1-10V?

Both are analogue dimming signals that work in a similar way. The difference lies mainly in the lowest dimming level; check which signal your luminaire and controller support.

Can I dim a high bay with an ordinary dimmer?

No, an ordinary wall dimmer is not suitable. Use the dimming system that the luminaire supports.

How much does dimming save?

That depends on the use. With sensors and daylight control, consumption can be reduced considerably further.
