An LED high bay is a powerful luminaire for spaces with a high ceiling, such as warehouses, production halls, workshops and sports halls. Because of its shape, the round version is also known as a UFO. A high bay is usually mounted from a height of approx. 6 metres and lights a large floor area from there.

What do you use a high bay for?
- warehouses and distribution centres,
- production halls and workshops,
- sports halls and indoor riding arenas,
- showrooms, garden centres and DIY stores with high ceilings.
Which wattage for which height?
| Mounting height | Wattage (guide) |
|---|---|
| 4 to 6 metres | approx. 100 W |
| 6 to 8 metres | approx. 150 W |
| 8 to 10 metres | approx. 200 W |
| 10 metres and higher | 240 W or more |
The right number of luminaires depends on the floor area, the desired lux level and the beam angle. A lighting plan gives the best result.
UFO or linear high bay?
A round UFO high bay spreads light all around and is ideal for open halls. A linear high bay gives an elongated light pattern and is better suited to narrow aisles between high racking.
Benefits compared with old hall lighting
Compared with metal halide or sodium lamps, an LED high bay often uses 50 to 70% less electricity, gives full light instantly and lasts much longer. Many models are dimmable or can be fitted with a motion or daylight sensor.
